Scholarships Awarded by Chapter
Beginning in November 2015 the NC Coastal & Piedmont Chapter has given a scholarship to a student in the Cape Fear Community College (Wilmington) Boat Building Program. This is to help ensure a future workforce to help preserve and restore antique and classic boats. The Chapter has made a yearly donation of $1,000 (increased to $1,500 then to our current level of $2,000) to the Cape Fear Community College's Boat Building School to provide financial assistance to a student enrolled there in the wooden boat building program. The money is managed by the CFCC Foundation which screens all applicants and evaluates their submission against our established criteria for scholarship award.
In 2020 we provided a $1,000 scholarship to Shane Snow, a disabled veteran and father of three whose goal it is to start his own small business in wooden boat manufacture. The second recipient of a $,1000 scholarship was Cody Murphy who looks forward to full time employment in the boat building business. In 2021 we funded a $1,000 scholarship for Thomas Bisson who is studying in the Boat Manufacturing and Service program. Tom was the only applicant who met our established criteria in this award cycle. Tom can be seen working in photo below on the left. The balance of $1,000 we provided to CFCC will be carried forward and awarded in the next award cycle.
In June 2023 we awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Thomas Bisson, who is rebuilding a boat to be used in establishing a chartering and marine services business.
